A jury has ruled in favor of Chance the Rapper in a contract trial against his former manager, Pat Corcoran. The verdict, delivered on Friday, March 20, rejected Corcoran’s claims that he was owed $3.8 million in unpaid commissions. Corcoran had alleged that Chance owed him the money under an oral agreement, including a ‘sunset clause’ that ran for three years after their working relationship ended.
The jury also sided with Chance on his countersuit, which accused Corcoran of breaching fiduciary duties and exploiting career opportunities for his own benefit. However, they awarded Chance only $35 in damages, rather than the $1 million he had sought. The verdict brings an end to a messy and long-running legal battle between the two, who were once close but parted ways on bad terms a few years ago.
